Summer Color Combos- Nature Inspired
So many things are coming up green lately, so why not try and incoporate as many of those things into your wedding that you can. Recycled paper for your invites, salvaged glass bottles used as vases to display your wedding flowers, paper pinwheels for your guests… well, just keep reading and you’ll soon understand where I’m going with this!

Purple and Green
Set the tone for your lovely nature inspired wedding with these adorable invitations by Stelie Designs on Etsy. The invitation is printed on recycled cardstock!

Dresses- Ok, these aren’t made from anything recycled, but this short sleeveless taffeta dress from David’s Bridal, is fun and flirty with some serious wear-again potential.

Add some “green” to your dress with these stylish heels from Nine West. They are great for your green theme because… you can dye them after your big day and wear them again and again! Perfect.

Flowers-I LOVE green button mums(or as some like to call them- kermit mums). A simple cluster bouquet for your bridesmaid’s and pomander’s used to decorate your ceremony aisle (yes, I make these) and for your flower-girl to carry.

Inexpensive and perfect for your wedding decor, these recycled green glass bottles. Your best bet to collect a bunch of these and score them for free you ask? Simply contact a few of the local restaurants in your area and ask them if they would be willing to set aside their empty bottles for you.

Insert one or two purple lucy ball stems of varying lengths into the green glass bottles-a perfect centerpiece to add some color to your reception tables.

Handed out to your guests upon entering your ceremony, guests will have fun making these spin as you are pronounced as Mr. & Mrs.
Pinwheels are very easy to make and if you use purple recycled paper, good for the environment too. Gather some friends over (make sure you have some beverages on hand… preferably something out of a green glass bottle)!!! and get to work on putting these fun, whimsical pieces together. Psst… print your names and wedding date on the paper too as a momento piece.

Another fun addition to your tables at the reception are these green tissue paper napkin rings.

This cupcake stand stands out with it’s mix-match of green and white cupcakes and dots. The thin green ribbon accents each layer. (I can make these stands- check out mine here)

Add this swag to the back of the bride & groom chair’s at the reception to distinguish them from your guests. Here are the directions to make them yourself and a bonus… you can make these ahead of time!

I am beside myself with this last find. A tasty delish treat for your guests and unique to boot. Individual single size pies in dainty glass jars (bonus= re-usable). The Purple Pie Company, will even “engrave” your pie with a special crust message! Please… really?

Do you have any items that you are re-using for your wedding?

Summer Color Combos- Grey, the new Black?
This color-combo has sparked some rave reviews! Afterall, these colors were literally thrown into the spotlight for Tori and Dean’s vow renewal (for those of you that haven’t been sucked in- I’m referring to Tori Spelling’s reality show) and it’s becoming a very popular color combination. Tori & Dean added a touch of black, but I’m sticking to white and grey with yellow as a nice “pop” of color to accent.
Yellow, Grey and White
Attire-Dress the girls in a soft, flowing mid-length sleevless dress that ties around the neck, by Mishka Designs

Add this one-of-a-kind, handmade grey felt flower brooch embellished with a simple white pearl in the center, to the bridesmaid dress. Flower by Belle Blossoms on Etsy.

For the guys- big and little, a solid grey suit with grey ties for the grown up and this darling tie from Baby By Stevie on Etsy for the little guy.

Decor- I love these two fabrics from Ikea. One is a yellow and white stripe (sofia) at $7.99/yd. and this solid grey fabric (charlotta himmel) at $5.99/rd. This fabric is so inexpensive, that you could use it to cover those “extra tables”… you know, like your cake table, candy table, escort card table, etc. Not handy in the sewing department? There is a great iron-on hem product on the market that replaces the need for sewing. If you can work an iron, you can use this product! Think beyond the box, use the fabric to cover a bound book and use as your guest book, cover tags and hang from a tree for guest to write a “wish” for you. Loads of options with this!

If you have vintage milk glasses- use them, but a great alternative are these white vases from Ikea (I just got their new catalog in the mail, so I’m Ikea-obsessed right now). At only $2.99 each- you can’t miss on these. They come in a variety of patterns/textures. Fill them with this mixture of peonies, ranunculus, and sweet peas.

Want something cool to drink at your wedding? Check out Jones Soda. From their website, you can now personalize your own label for the famous drink with your picture and message. How cool is that? And… get some solid colored bright yellow straws for you guests to sip their soda!

Sweet treats- I love these cool little cupcakes. Try cookies-n-cream, strawberry shortcake. Topped with mini oreo cookies, starwberries, etc. Take this idea from The Knot.
Each one has it’s own cupcake topper(this is where your extra fabric can come into play) or use a fun wallpaper or scrapbooking paper to cover the shape of your choosing. Add your new initials, the type of cupcake flavor, the date of your wedding, whatever mesasge you so choose on the circle.

I’m in love with Grey this season, can you tell! What do you all think? Is Grey YOUR new black?
Summer Color Combos-Where the grass is Green
A summer outdoor wedding where the grass is green (and yes the girls are pretty- for you GNR fans) and orange accents come together to compliment one another for a lavish garden wedding. This isn’t your average garden variety wedding. The summer orange accents add a splash of whimsy and childhood nostalgia.
Summer Orange and Green
The inspiration for this color combo comes from this variety of fabrics. If you are having trouble deciding on a color combination and/or palette, and if you are a visual person, I find it helps to browse thru images (ie. magazine, on-line etc.).
Or in this case, a fabric store. Find colors, textures, patterns that you like. Once you have all that you like, sort them based on your taste. Basically, go with what you feel looks well together and gives you the feeling that you want for your big day. You’ll know when it’s a perfect match- just trust those instincts!

Let’s start off with the Ceremony.
These programs are a bit nature inspired by the green leafy trim, with a bold orange monogram circle and font in both green and orange. Easy peasy to customize- just give me a shout if you like this look!

I love the idea of combining nostalgia with this lavish garden wedding.
Add mason jars of orange roses and green hydrangeas hung from shepherd’s hooks along the ceremony aisle.
These of course can be moved inside your reception tent (if needed) or even placed on tables for accents at your reception. AND- you can use these in your home after your big day. Who doesn’t love drinking lemonade on a hot summer day out of a mason jar!

Yes, with having an outdoor wedding comes the chance for rain (although they say it brings good luck). Keep your options open for a tent. Use it if needed and they’re fun to decorate! I especially love the orange lanterns and the crisp white linens. *Great note… keep a few picnic tables set up nearby covered with white tablecloths accented with small orange polka dots.

Add these buckets with your new initial on the front as your centerpiece on the tables. Give your guests something to talk about! Fill them with these custom made crossword puzzles by Love Smart Design on Etsy and plenty of pencils- great ice-breaker!

Attire- Men in either Black or Tan suits with this fun orange plaid tie and small orange ranunculus bout

Girls in this strapless, floaty, lightweight silk chiffon “juliet” dress with a delicate crinkled texture and full skirt with horizontal pleats by none other than JCrew.

Along with them, the girls will carry this white spider mum bouquet accented with green hypericum berries- add a green ribbon to the handle.

Your flower girl will look adorable in a white dress with an orange sash- carrying this green moss covered pomander down the aisle. Made by your’s truly! Find it at my store on Etsy.

Sweets- Multicolored ribbons are wrapped around each tier of this beautiful cake. Fresh dahlias, cymbidium orchids, and orange roses added an elegant touch.

What special “cool” treat is enjoyable to all ages, screams summer, and of course is orange? Why… a CREAMSICLE of course. You can’t go wrong with popsicles on a hot day!

What do you all think? Great combo of colors for a summer wedding! Just makes you want to take your shoes off and run around the green grass eating popsicles right?!

Summer Color Combos- The New Nautical
Here we are… the last stop on our journey of color combos by seasons, Summer. Although summer time is starting to wind down here in the States, summer brides have already begun planning for 2011.
Here’s a new twist on the “Nautical” theme… no worries though, still plenty of “preppy” to go around!
Navy and Pink
Staionary-I love this Etsy shop and her designs! This particular combination works so well with our theme and colors, but it doesn’t go overboard with the design. I love the mix of the dots and the lines (this will all tie-in with your accessories)!

Attire- Dress the guys in a sold grey 3-piece suit, with a solid light – very faint blue dress shirt, with solid navy blue tie. A simple white bout will round out the oufit. No such thing as an understatement with this ensemble.

Dress the girls in this chic one shoulder light pink dress with ruffle detail by Jenny Yoo. Since you were wondering…light colored dresses, such as this one, can be fabric dyed to a dark shade. Think of the perfect “little black dress” this could turn into for the girls after they have worn it to your wedding!

Add a fun navy accessory with these felt hand-made flowers by littlecards on Etsy.

And…these pair of to-die-for ruffled “Elga” T-strap heels by Nina

I promise, last accessory for the bridesmaid and would ALSO work on the Bride as well! Perfect gift for your attendants.
Psst…check out Casa Moda on Etsy for less expensive-version as seen here by Amanda Pearl

Reception Decor-
Welcome your guests with a garland of white flags that double as an escort card. Cut out white flags, use navy calligraphy and hang them from a nautical rope.

Your tables will have that “nautical” classic look to them, without going overboard on the theme (excuse the pun), with navy blue tablecloths, accented with silver and white and pops of pink. Pink Peoines are a perfect accent for the table as well as white candles, white square chargers and top each chair with a cushion covered with a thin stripe of white and navy blue fabric.

Sweets- You can get pretty creative when combining these two colors together, so have fun by alternating a different pattern on each tier. Use this image as a base, minus the scroll work and replace with stripes, polka dots and plaid.

Have some extra sweet treats on hand. Brownies, cupcakes, mini cakes are easy for your guests to snack on with these cute toothpicks with pink polka-dotted mini-flags (stays with your theme and matches possibly one of your cake layer designs).

So what did you think of this preppy color combo? If you missed any of the seasons click here to catch up on where it all started!

light pink and lavender
Flowers- This pink and lavender bouquet is full of gorgeous peonies, lisianthus, roses and scabiosas.

Attire- Your bridesmaids will look so fab in this dress by Lela Rose. An off the shoulder, mid-length chiffon/silk pleated dress with silk rose flowers on the neckline.
Pair with a simple silver shoe and hand-bag.

Programs- Use your new last-name initial to accessorize your invitations, programs and reception decor. Classy. Modern. Simple.

Reception- Play up the table for the new Mr & Mrs!
A glass table, lavender charger plates and pink and lavender petals scattered about. Glass vases in a variety of shapes and sizes over-filled with shades of pink and lavender flowers. Don’t forget… use your NEW initial projected on the dance floor!

Sweets- Set up a candy buffet for everyone to enjoy. Only pink candy will do. Sour balls, rock candy, smarties, bubble gum, jelly beans… I could go on and on and on!
Use pink ribbons on the scoops and keeping with the rest of the decor- glass containers (all shapes and sizes will work quite nicely)!

A little girl’s favorite colors, now all grown up and used together harmoniously for a beautiful lavish wedding.
